When Does A German Shepherd Dog (GSD) Stop Growing

How Big Will a German Shepherd Become?

German shepherd dogs grow to be fairly large.

  • Their typical adult weight is between 65 and 90 lbs (30-40 kg).
  • Females are somewhat smaller with a weight of 46 to 70 (22-32 kg).

Male GSDs are expected to have a shoulder height of 24-26 inches (60-65 cm). Females can be 22-24 inches (55-60 cm) high.

Some individuals are smaller and larger than the average size. That’s mostly due to genetics.

As long as the dog is healthy and playful, there is no need to worry.

Don’t be obsessed with the numbers.

At one year of age, the puppies are very close to the full-grown measurements.

From the 1 year mark to the 3-year mark they only have 5% of the overall height and weight left to gain.
